Interim UFC Heavyweight Champion Cyril Gan reveals how he first discovered his talent for fighting.
“I could easily become both a professional football player and a basketball player,” Gan said in an interview with BT Sport. “Maybe it sounds presumptuous, but it’s true. And then I understood it. When I was 13 years old, managers of football teams already met with me and offered to go to them. When I started playing basketball, I immediately got interested there. Professional teams offered to sign up for them.
In battles, I also somehow immediately started to succeed. In my first Muay Thai fight, when I entered the ring, I had two feelings. First, I am an athlete. Second, whatever happens in the ring, I’ll figure it out. And now, when I go into the UFC cage, I have this feeling: “I don’t know what will happen in the fight, but I will figure it out.” That’s why I took off so quickly in this sport.”
Ngannou and Gan will fight on January 22 at UFC 270 in Anaheim.
