Covington named the winner in the Chimaev vs Usman fight

Contender for the UFC welterweight championship belt, Colby Covington, is convinced that his former opponent, Kamaru Usman, who accepted a fight with Khamzat Chimaev two months ago on short notice, won the fight in question despite the judges deciding otherwise.

“I think Usman beat Chimaev,” said the American, speaking to reporters at a media press conference. “Usman interrupted him in the standup and even dropped him. Chimaev was afraid to fight him in the stand-up, didn’t even hit him once. Look at the statistics of the significant punches that were thrown.”

“If it had been a five-round fight, Usman would have destroyed him. He would have finished him in the championship rounds. Usman looked good. He took the fight on short notice in the middleweight division, where he’s never fought. I think he won that fight.”

The middleweight fight between Hamzat Chimaev and Kamaru Usman at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi on October 21 went all three rounds and ended in a majority decision victory for “Borz,” and Colby Covington will attempt to take the UFC welterweight championship belt from Leon Edwards this weekend at UFC 296 in Las Vegas.
