Coach Yard on the difference between fights against Kovalev and Beterbiev

Tunde Adjayi, coach of British light heavyweight Anthony Yarde (22-2, 21 KOs), is sure that only lack of experience prevented them from becoming world champions back in 2019 and winning a guest fight against Russian Sergey Kovalev.

Now, when Yard is waiting for the second attempt – a fight against the WBC / WBO / IBF title holder from Canada, Artur Beterbiev (18-0, 18 KOs), – this problem will no longer exist, Tunde is sure.

“I have said many times that Anthony had only 12 amateur fights (before moving to the pros),” Adjayi recalled. – We went to fight on the territory of the opponent, which many others did not dare to do. A guy with 12 amateur fights went to Russia and almost knocked out a two-time fighter of the year according to The Ring magazine.

“It’s no secret that Kovalev was later caught cheating, and who knows, perhaps in a fight with us he was also on something,” the coach continued. “For all that, I think we did very well in our first attempt at a world title. It was only a matter of experience, Kovalev himself said this after the fight. Experience is the only thing that won us over. And it is true”.

“At that time we were overconfident. We are both me and Anthony. We both came from the bottom and were inexperienced. Now this problem does not exist. Now the experience is already with us.”

Recall that the Beterbiev-Yard fight has not yet been officially announced, but is already tentatively scheduled for October 22 in London (England).

Recently, Anthony Yarde spoke about the fight with Beterbiev and called his main advantage over him.
