On Saturday in London (England), local popular veteran heavyweight gatekeeper Derek Chisora (33-13, 23 KOs) tried for the second time in his career to capture the WBC world title – he met with compatriot Tyson Fury (33-0-1, 24 KOs).
As expected, the fight was not competitive. Chisora got it great, and in the 10th round the referee decided to stop the desperately brave challenger – he recorded Fury’s victory by technical knockout.
It was the 13th defeat of Chisora in the professional ring. The 38-year-old slugger claims he is not going to end his career on this, and his compatriot boxing columnist Gareth Davis
thinksthat it’s about time: “I think he will still hang up his gloves on a nail. First, he did a great job. Secondly, he already has an incredible career. Have you thought that if Chisora had attacked Fury, he would have become the first since
Joe Walcott jersey a heavyweight who became a champion with more than 10 losses in his liabilities? And that was back in 1951…”
“Imagine, this record has been holding for more than 70 years,” the columnist wound up. – No, I’m not saying that I bet on Chisora. I thought he would capitulate somewhere in the 6-8 rounds. In my opinion, he should consider retiring, as he missed a huge amount of shots. And in general, during his career he endured so much plop … An incredible fighter, an incredible career. As for me, he has long become a cult character, a cult hero.
In the meantime, promoter Eddie Hearn has even voiced options for the veteran – you’ll love it.
Chisora’s first title attempt is dated 2012 – lost on points veteran Vitali Klitschko.
