Not so long ago, the former coach of the reigning unified world middleweight champion (up to 72.6 kg) Kazakhstani Gennady Golovkin (42-2-1, 37 KOs) Abel Sanchez said that GGG should not enter the ring in the next fight against one of the unbeaten Americans – WBC title holder in 72.6 kg Jermall Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) or ex-WBO champion in this category Demetrius Andred (31-0, 19 KOs).
Abel explained his opinion by the fact that two fights in a row against the tops, and in September Golovkin boxed against Canelo Alvarez, would be too much for 40-year-old Gennady.
Now Sanchez has come to the conclusion that neither Charlo nor Andred deserve to fight Golovkin at all.
“Honestly, I wouldn’t want him to fight Charlo. I don’t think Charlo fought enough to get over the guys who are really busy (in fights),” says Sanchez. “Besides Charlo, there are a lot of guys who are busy, who fight maybe even twice a year, and who should get a chance because they are active. And Charlo and Andred just sit and wait for a fat contract. I don’t think it’s right.”
Meanwhile, the WBA ordered Golovkin to fight Lara, and Andre Ward blasted both Canelo and Gennady hard.
