Charles Oliveira vs. Benil Dariush at UFC 288 Canceled

Former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira has been injured and will not be able to compete against Benil Dariush on May 6 at UFC 288 in Newark.

According to an ESPN report, Dariush left the numbered event card following the eliminated opponent, and the fight will be rescheduled to a later date. There is no information yet about the nature of the injury to the Brazilian and the timing of his return to the octagon.

It was assumed that the winner of this confrontation on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi would challenge the reigning UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev.

The last time the two fighters fought was last October at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi, where Oliveira failed to capture the vacant UFC lightweight championship belt, losing to Makhachev via a second-round arm triangle choke, and Dariush scored his eighth straight win by unanimous decision against Mateusz Gamroth.
