Chael Sonnen: “Russia is ahead of the rest in doping and forgery of passports”

Former UFC and Bellator fighter Chael Sonnen considers Russia to be the leading sports power in doping and age-faking.

“Back in 2012, I predicted the dominance of Russian fighters in MMA,” Sonnen said on the Lytes Out Podcast YouTube channel. “When the UFC started signing guys from Russia, I said: “Don’t sign them unless you do business with Russia. Because if you sign, you’ll face domination like you’ve never seen before.”

In Russia, if they see that you are good, they take you out of your home and put you in special boarding schools. I was in this – they all live on the same floor, they have a school there, a computer, and they never leave from there. Only workouts. And I’m not talking about the real truth behind Russian athletes. No one can cheat like they do. There it is put on the state level. They are ahead of the rest on steroids. They start chemistry from a very young age.

They take young guys, change their age, forge passports, and then chemically beat the guys into unconsciousness. They have 18 year olds fighting with 15 year olds because 18 year olds have fake passports. And chemistry to boot. Now we had the world championship among cadets, where our guy from Oregon reached the final. And he’s fighting a Russian who doesn’t look 15 at all. They’re just cheating. And they are all refueled. This is the real truth of Russian sports. They are very cool cheaters.”

Sonnen retired in June 2019 in a knockout loss to Lyoto Machida at Bellator 222.
