Cepeda got into an accident. Fight of the month on the verge of collapse? There’s an answer

Top American super lightweight José Cepeda (35-2, 27 KOs) got into a car accident yesterday – that’s the reason why he never showed up for an open training session.

On Saturday, he has the most important fight of his career – in the confrontation with compatriot Regis Prograis (27-1, 23 KOs) they will play for the vacant WBC world title. But will he be able to take part in a duel after a car accident?

René Cepeda’s brother/manager has the answer. According to him
wordsJose was not injured in the accident, everything was a slight fright – no injuries, bruises or even abrasions.

For Cepeda, the upcoming fight is the third title attempt. In 2015, due to an injury, he withdrew during the fight with Terry Flanagan, and in 2019 he controversially lost to Jose Ramirez. Interestingly, the winner of the fight Cepeda vs Prograis should give an immediate fight to Ramirez – as decided by the WBC.

Prograis – ex-interim and ex-diamond WBC champion, finalist superseries and former WBA world champion. The only defeat in his career (and also controversial) was in the final WBSS – lost a little to Josh Taylor.

Cepeda vs Prograis topped our list of November 2022 boxing bouts.
