Canelo wants Bivol rematch right after Golovkin trilogy – Promoter

British promoter Eddie Hearn is convinced that the Mexican Canelo Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) does not deserve criticism for losing to Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs) in early May, as he is “just trying to be great”, deliberately leaving comfort zone.

Hearn promises that the Bivol story is not over yet, and after the upcoming trilogy with Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs), Canelo intends to meet the offender again.

“Why do you want to criticize the guy – of course, it’s understandable that it’s jealousy and that he stumbled – but still, why do you want to criticize the guy for trying to be great? You basically say, “You shouldn’t have taken this fight because it was too hard.” What kind of sport is this in our country if you criticize fighters for taking on big challenges? Eddie asks.

“He beat everyone at middleweight. Beat everyone at super middleweight,” Hearn recalls. He wants to do something different, he wants to test himself. Suddenly you fail and it turns out that “this is a terrible mistake, you should not have done this, you should have chosen an easier fight in your division”. Well, that’s boring.”

“This guy has achieved everything and we should respect him for trying to be great. Now he is back with a new fight against Golovkin, after which he wants to immediately have a rematch with Bivol. And if he beats Bivol in a rematch, what do we say then? One of the greatest fighters of all time, no less, ”said the functionary.

Recall that the Alvarez-Golovkin trilogy is scheduled for September 17 in Las Vegas (USA).

Meanwhile, the top coach demands to remove Lomachenko and Canelo from R4R.
