Taking into account the fact that the Mexican Canelo Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) has already planned the next calendar year – in September there will be a trilogy with Gennady Golovkin, and then a rematch with Dmitry Bivol – British promoter Eddie Hearn offered David Benavidez (26- 0.23 KOs) in the meantime fight a “real fighter” to make his potential fight against Canelo even more meaningful and compelling.
“I think Canelo vs Benavidez is a very big fight. We already know that Canelo will fight Golovkin first and then Bivol. After that I see Benavidez as a very big fight for Alvarez,” Hearn says. – And to make it even bigger, I would like to see how he (Benavidez) will fight against one real fighter. Just one, and that could be Caleb Plant or Jermall Charlo. They are both great fighters.”
Meanwhile, Hearn has already found an opponent for Bivol, and Benavidez has three real opponents for November.
