The undisputed super-middleweight champion Mexican Saul Canelo Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) lost the 1st pound in May after an unsuccessful attempt to take away the WBA Super belt from Russian light heavyweight Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs) – lost the decision of the judges.

Superstar fighter disagrees with decision to demote him to best of the best by The Ring magazine: “To be honest, I don’t know their ranking principles. But I still feel that I am the best of the best. Well, who else in boxing is trying to conquer several weight categories, while constantly going up in weight, then coming back? Who else sets a variety of goals and tries to achieve them? I don’t see anyone like that anymore.”

“And I did it and continue to do it. Risking everything in an effort to write my story. But I could easily box, minimizing all the risks. After all, I have already achieved a lot. I don’t really need to risk it. But I keep doing it. And there are no other such fighters in boxing. Even if for a while they take my position. This is the reason why I still feel like the best in the world.”
explained his position to Canelo.

In September, the Mexican will return to super middleweight and will have a third fight with his enemy from Kazakhstan, veteran Gennady Golovkin. In 2017, the judges helped the Mexican bring the fight to a draw, and exactly 12 months later, Canelo pulled out a minimal victory.

Interestingly, the Kazakhstani has never boxed at 76.2 kg before. What will Golovkin look like at super middleweight? The opinion of the show promoter. Eddie Hearn also believes that Canelo must defeat GGG, otherwise he risks his career.
