On September 17, in Las Vegas (USA), antagonists Saul Canelo Alvarez (57-2-2, 39 KOs) from Mexico and Gennady Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs) from Kazakhstan will hold their third face-to-face fight – this time they will fight for all super middleweight belts. Previous fights took place in 2017-2018: at first a dubious draw was recorded, then the Mexican won.

Canelo claims that this time Golovkin will get worse than before, as “they have personal.” The Kazakh ridicules the words of the Mexican, but he recalls that this happened before – he had a fight at a press conference with the American Caleb Plant, in a fight with whom he became an absolute of 76.2 kg.

In May, Canelo tried to take the WBA Super belt from Russian light heavyweight Dmitry Bivol, but lost by decision. The Mexican wants to take revenge: “I’m learning. Every fight is first and foremost food for thought. I watch fights, I see mistakes, I go to the gym to work on fixing them. Now I’m only interested in two fights – Golovkin and a rematch with Bivol. I don’t have any other plans.”
Canelo promises to knock out Golovkin, recalls the first two fights: “The second I had much better. And he had the best plan for the fight. I think we will build a strategy for the third fight on this foundation. It seems to me that the third fight will resemble the second. The only difference is that since then I have become stronger, matured. This will make all the difference. But he is also strong. So I don’t know what will happen and how. I don’t know if he stayed the same. But that’s not my problem. I will prepare for peak Golovkin. If not, then that’s his problem. All thoughts about this fight. I really want to beat him up.”
The other day coach Canelo admitted: “We wanted an immediate rematch with Bivol, not Golovkin.” And Golovkin’s mentor talked about the topic, what if Gennady is the same “alien” as Foreman and Hopkins. He also believes that “defense is the key to defeating Canelo.”
