Canelo Alvarez’s next opponent: it looks like everything is already clear

Apparently, the next fight of the undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) will be held against the holder of the “interim” WBO title Briton John Ryder (32-5, 17 KOs) in May next year.

In any case, the promoter of the British Eddie Hearn is aiming for this, having planned to organize a fight with the participation of Canelo in the UK.

“Fortunately, John Ryder had the opportunity. And he’s had a great year,” says Hearn. “If Canelo Alvarez is interested in this fight, I would be happy to bring him to the UK. It would be a huge deal for British boxing and I think Canelo would be happy about it too. John Ryder deserved this opportunity based on the results of the past year and his victories. So hopefully we can arrange that.”

According to Eddie, such a fight will definitely be held at a football stadium – for example, London’s Emirates or Wembley.

The reaction of the coach/manager of the Mexican Eddie Reynoso indicates that the chances of a fight are great:

“Ryder is on a good winning streak, he had some good fights. We will be ready for this fight. It’s an interesting option – a guy who is aggressive and goes forward. It will be interesting”.

We add that both Alvarez and Ryder had two fights in 2022: the Mexican lost to Dmitry Bivol, after which he outboxed Gennady Golovkin, and John won against Daniel Jacobs and Zach Parker.
