Canelo Alvarez will have to cut earnings – all because of the desire to fight at home

As we reported the day before, the undisputed super-middleweight champion (up to 76.2 kg) Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) will most likely fight his next fight on May 6 at home against the obligatory challenger from Britain, the owner of “ interim WBO title John Ryder (32-5, 18 KOs).

British promoter Eddie Hearn, with whom Alvarez has been working closely lately, confirmed the boxer’s desire to perform in Mexico for the first time since 2011, despite the forced reduction in the fee.

“The deal for the fight is not closed yet, but yes: Ryder in May is our plan. Alvarez returns from injury and Ryder is the first mandatory at 76.2kg as interim champion. He is happy with this fight, and now the only question is where everything will go, ”says Hearn.

“I think Canelo would like to fight in Mexico, but in that case it will entail a reduction in his earnings,” the promoter said. “We think it will be somewhere in Guadalajara, but it’s still a big difference in terms of ticket revenue.”

The other day Alvarez himself admitted that he thinks only of Bivol, but he did not watch Beterbiev.
