Canelo Alvarez vs David Benavidez. Robert Garcia says

The famous American coach Robert Garcia doubts that the undisputed super middleweight champion Mexican Canelo Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) will ever enter the ring against former champion David Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs), because he does not want to fight with compatriots.

“I would love to see a fight like that, but we probably won’t see it,” says Garcia. “You know Canelo said he wouldn’t fight the Mexican. And I don’t blame him for that. After all, there are a lot of Eastern European guys, Asians, Americans, and even black Mexican-Americans.”

But what if Alvarez does fight Benavidez?

“Canelo is very smart in the ring, he won’t box in a way that will please the public,” says Robert. “He knows what is good for him and does exactly what it takes to win. He will do the same against Benavidez.”

“David is a completely different matter. He’ll come out and try to make a war for the fans to enjoy. And they will love it,” the coach continues. Canelo is not like that. And I can’t blame him for that. This is his life and he wants to enjoy it with his family. He’s seen former champions go through wars in the ring and now have speech, memory and coordination problems. And you can’t blame them either.”

And here is what the former coach of Gennady Golovkin thinks about a possible fight between Alvarez and Benavidez.
