Canelo Alvarez announces plan for 2023: no fight with Bivol in May

The absolute champion of the super middleweight division (up to 76.2 kg) Mexican Canelo Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) announced a preliminary plan for his career for the next year.

If recovery from surgery on an injured left wrist continues to go off without a hitch, then Alvarez will usually enter the ring in early May and mid-September.

At the same time, he does not hide the fact that the revenge against the Russian light heavyweight Dmitry Bivol (21-0, 11 KOs), to whom he lost in May of this year, will not be his next fight.

“My plan at the moment is to return in May,” Canelo said. – In January I will start training and see how I feel after that. The idea is to come back in May with an interim fight to see how I feel and then in September to have a rematch against Bivol. Right now, that’s the only thing I want for my career.”

Thus, Bivol, who successfully defended the title on November 5 against Canelo’s compatriot Gilberto Ramirez, apparently also faces some kind of intermediate fight in order to avoid a long downtime before the rematch. Here we discussed the possible options for Dmitry.

Earlier, Alvarez named two reasons for the defeat of Bivol: he wants to fix everything.
