Can Ruiz upset Wilder? The opinion of the ex-rival Klitschko

Over the weekend in Los Angeles (USA), US-Mexican ex-heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz (35-2, 22 KOs) snatched victory from 43-year-old Cuban veteran Luis Ortiz (33-3, 28 KOs).

Oh, if only… Ruiz was worse, but defeated Ortiz – Rreport about this fight

The fight took place in the status of the semi-final eliminator from the WBC. The second finalist will be determined very soon – in October in Brooklyn (New York, USA), the former US champion Deontay Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KOs) will face off against Robert Helenius (31-3, 20 KOs) from Finland.

Age American-Mexican Chris Arreola is a three-time contender for the championship belt. For the first time he fought for the WBC title in 2009 – ahead of schedule he lost to the Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko. In 2016, Arreola made his last title attempt – he capitulated under the blows of Wilder. The last time the big man was seen in the ring last year – he gave a fight, dropped Ruiz.

Since Arreola is well acquainted with both Wilder and Ruiz, he was asked to evaluate the chances of the fighters in this potential fight.
Opinion veteran: “Cool fight. I bet on Wilder. This is a hefty dude who is no stranger to fighting the best of the best. But I don’t advise writing off Ruiz either. It’s a good fight and competitive. Ruiz’s chances? He needs to be more active. Against Wilder, you can’t just stand there and block like he did with Ortiz. If he tries to repeat this, he will greatly simplify the task for Deontay. The fight won’t last long. Andy needs to stay close to Wilder and let his fists go.”

According to Arreola, “Ruiz was clearly afraid that Ortiz would catch him in a counterattack. But at the same time, when he used his fists, he won in almost every such exchange. He has very fast hands. And he’s very strong.”

Yesterday, Ruiz was asked to rate who has the biggest splash, Joshua or Ortiz. And the ex-champion also explained why he didn’t knock out the Cuban and immediately after the fight named the next goal.
