British Rocky retired – he was a world champion, fought with Canelo

Briton Rocky Fielding (30-3, 18 KOs), who performed in the second middle and light heavyweight categories, has decided to retire.

As an amateur, Fielding twice reached the semi-finals of the Championship of England (ABA), and turned professional in 2010.

For the first time, the fighter was noticed already in 2011 – he won a one-day tournament Prizefighter Tornament (all three fights completed ahead of schedule). The following year he became the champion of England in the super middleweight division, then the champion of the British Commonwealth. He took the regional titles of WBA Inter-Continental and WBC International, but in the battle for the title of mandatory challenger (WBC) he lost by early knockout to fellow countryman Callum Smith.

In 2017, he snatched a heavy victory from John Ryder and became the champion of Britain. Then for the first time he went to box outside of Britain – he sensationally took away the belt of the world champion according to the WBA World (secondary in the WBA hierarchy) from the German Tyrone Zeuge.

In 2018, in the United States, he lost this title to Mexican superstar Saul Canelo Alvarez, after which he disappeared from boxing for a year. He returned to light heavyweight, had several interim fights. In December last year, he fought for the British and British Commonwealth titles with prospect Dan Aziz, lost ahead of schedule without a chance.

“Announcing my retirement,” Fielding writes. – Spent 26 years in boxing. I first got into the gym when I was only 9. And by chance, I wanted to keep myself in shape for the start of the football season. Dreamed of becoming a world champion, fighting in the arena Madison Square Garden and to be represented in the ring by the legendary Michael Buffer. So I can say that all my dreams have become a reality.”

In September, Fielding revealed what Canelo is particularly good at. In 2020, he was on the list of candidates to rival Saunders, but the pandemic ruined everything.
