“Biter” Berlanga fined and suspended from boxing – insiders

Last week in New York (USA), an American of Puerto Rican blood, a fighter of the second middle weight (up to 76.2 kg) Edgar Berlanga (20-0, 16 KOs) disappointed in a fight with an age-old former contender from Colombia, Roamer Angulo (27-3 , 23 KO) – he could even lose by disqualification, because during the fight he tried to bite the opponent.

The referee missed that episode or ignored it, which is also not excluded – the judge’s verdict turned out to be stale. After the fight, Berlanga apologized for biting his opponent and explained his actions.

According to ESPN
in New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) a decision was made to fine the fighter and temporarily suspend him from boxing. The decision is still unofficial – the organization is discussing the timing of the suspension.
According to insiders
the bite will cost the boxer 10 thousand US dollars.

Representative of the company Top Rank Evan Korn said they will accept any decision NYSAC.

Berlanga had previously been a buzzword with 16 straight knockout wins in the opening rounds, but as the opposition leveled up, the prospect began to struggle. Recently, he has been increasingly trying to box, which is not very successful – Berlanga-slugger liked the fans much more.

In March, the fighter said he could be the next Cotto or Trinidad. And expert Timothy Bradley slammed him hard: “He looks like a deer in the headlights.”
