Benil Dariush refuses to challenge Islam Makhachev

UFC lightweight number four, Benil Dariush, has explained why he is not going to challenge reigning division champion Islam Makhachev even if he manages to beat Charles Oliveira next.

“I’m working so hard to win this fight, so why would I give him my glow?” Sportskeeda quoted Dariusz as saying. “I’m going to give this glow to the people who help me win my fights. I think it’s stupid to make all these calls, like, ‘Please, fight me!’ I know who brought me to where I am, so why should I waste my energy giving my radiance to someone else?”

At the same time, the American fighter does not exclude that the organization will bypass him with a title chance and allow another contender to fight for the championship belt.

“I don’t care. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I’m not going to beg for a title fight. If the UFC keeps putting guys ahead of me, then I’m just going to keep blowing heads.”

Recall that a potential lightweight contender fight will take place on May 6 at UFC 288 in Newark, and its winner may challenge Islam Makhachev on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi.
