“There are better wrestlers in the welterweight division than him,” Dariusz told Submission Radio. “Colby is a great wrestler, Khamzat is a great wrestler. If Usman is still there, he is a tough guy and I consider Leon Edwards to be the most versatile fighter in the UFC. I don’t think the welterweight division will be a cakewalk for Makhachev.”
The Russian fighter announced a possible foray into welterweight after he successfully defended his title against Alexander Volkanovski, whom he defeated by unanimous decision at UFC 284 in Perth.
“If management calls tomorrow and says that we want to give you a welterweight title chance, I will gladly try my hand,” Makhachev told reporters upon returning home.
At the moment, the UFC welterweight championship belt is held by Briton Leon Edwards, who on March 18 at UFC 286 in London will have a title rematch against Kamaru Usman representing Nigeria.
