Benavidez responded to Canelo: “Who cares? Take it and do it!

Two-time WBC world super middleweight champion (up to 76.2 kg) David Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs) is sure that the current undisputed division champion Canelo Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) is specifically looking for excuses to don’t get in the ring with him.

For example, Alvarez once stated that “Benavidez didn’t beat anyone” in order to count on their duel, noting that among David’s victims “only one champion was Anthony Dirrell.”

“Everything he says is bullshit! Benavidez says. – The WBC ratings are not compiled from scratch. I won two eliminators in a row, won a temporary belt. Dude, everyone is already talking about our fight. Who the hell cares that I only fought one champion? If I’m as simple as he says, and he’s not afraid to step into the ring to beat me, then let him go and do it.”

In fairness, we note that David defeated two champions – in May of this year, he went to David Lemieux, who, however, owned one of the prestigious titles by weight lower.

Despite everything, Benavidez believes that sooner or later he will achieve a fight with Canelo:

“All I have to do is keep winning and then the fight will eventually happen. And I’ll be incredibly ready when that happens.”

As we reported earlier, Benavidez’s next fight is scheduled for January 2023, and his opponent will again be far from a representative of the division’s elite.
