The “temporary” WBC world champion in the second middleweight (up to 76.2 kg) American David Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs) prefers not to react to the words of his compatriot from the middle division (up to 72.6 kg), the owner of the WBC full-weight title Jermall Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs), who is verbally interested in their fight.
Benavidez noted that this is not the first time a-Charlo has expressed a desire to fight, but does nothing for this.
“I don’t think about it at all (the fight with Charlo) until I get a contract,” says David. “A lot of these guys make big statements like they have to when they’re in front of the cameras. How many times has Charlo said he’s ready to fight me? And I’ll tell you: a lot. And nothing has happened yet. So until that happens, everything that comes out of his mouth is bullshit!”
“I don’t know what he wants at all,” Benavidez admitted, continuing the conversation about Jermall. “Looks like he just wants to fight Canelo Alvarez. He wants to earn. But you have to take risks to get such a big reward like a fight with the face of boxing. And the biggest option for him, apart from Canelo, is with me. And vice versa”.
