Bellew on Bivol’s chances of becoming number one in the P4P rankings

Former world champion and current boxing columnist streaming DAZN Briton Tony Bellew believes that if the owner of the WBA Super belt (temporarily?) playing for Kyrgyzstan, Russian Dmitry Bivol (20-0, 11 KOs) beats his obligatory challenger Mexican Gilberto Ramirez (44-0, 30 KOs), then he will refuse to fight- rematch with superstar Saul Canelo Alvarez (58-2-2, 39 KOs) from Mexico.

The fight Bivol vs Ramirez will take place tonight in Abu Dhabi (UAE).

In May of this year, super middleweight Canelo unsuccessfully tried to take the belt from Bivol – he lost by unanimous decision. The contract contained a clause on revenge, which Alvarez is going to use.

Bellew believes that Bivol has other priorities now: “I think that in the event of a victory over Ramirez, he will want an immediate fight with (owner of all other division belts) Artur Beterbiev. He already has a win over Canelo. But the victory over Beterbiev and the title of the absolute world champion, no doubt, whets the appetite.”

Bellew is looking forward to a tough fight: “Classic boxer against ever-oncoming power. And all the titles are on the line. Even if Ramirez defeats Bivol, then the fight with Beterbiev will also be a priority for him, because in his case the fight with Canelo is completely irrelevant. So there’s a lot more at stake in the Bivol vs. Ramirez fight than just a championship title. Now just imagine Bivol beating Canelo and Beterbiev in 18 months! Why not an argument to consider him the strongest boxer in the world?
