Bellew: If Beterbiev Yard doesn’t end with a knockout, I’ll walk down the street without panties

Former world champion and current boxing columnist Tony Bellew promises to walk naked along the main street of his native Liverpool if tomorrow’s fight for the WBC, IBF and WBO light heavyweight titles between knockouts Artur Beterbiev (18-0, 18 KOs) from Canada and Anthony Yarde ( 23-2, 22 KOs) from Great Britain will go the whole distance.

“This is an awesome fight,” says Bellew. “If he walks the whole distance, I will walk down Lord Street without my underpants.” That’s how sure I am that there will be a knockout!

Bellew claims that the applicant has a very solid chance: “Beterbiev is vulnerable. Therefore, those who do not give Yard a single chance simply do not understand anything in boxing. Beterbiev was knocked down, more than once. He was shaken up during his career. Do you understand what I’m talking about? Yes, he is still a fighting machine. Yes, lately I have not seen the same destructive power in the light heavyweights. But in Yard’s fragments, a very solid performance slips through. He also has an advantage in speed and footwork. All this is against the pure destructive power of Beterbiev.”

According to Bellew, “everyone who suggests that Yard arrange a slugfest with Beterbiev is talking nonsense. Here you need to take over the center of the ring, box from the jab and react to the opponent’s actions. You can not count on the fact that Beterbiev will get tired. Otherwise, it will all be over in 4 rounds. No, this one won’t get tired. He is very dangerous. He needs to be caught. His respect must be earned. And it is desirable to do this already at the start of the battle. This is the only chance to beat him. He is a monster. Without a doubt”.
