“I was offered a fight with Colby, they said that he agreed, and a week later they said that they did not have his consent,” Muhammad said in an interview with Helen Yeh. “Then they said again that he agreed, and then they said they couldn’t find him. Therefore, I do not know what is happening to him now. Maybe he’s hoping someone at lightweight will come up to fight him. But if you want to be a champion, you have to fight the best, and right now the best in the world is me.”
“This situation upsets me, because on March 18 the title will be played, and I am in a strange position. The only guys who are ahead of me in the rankings are Khamzat, who is moving up to middleweight, and Colby, who does not want to fight. As far as I can see, there is no one in line for the title fight but me. So I hope the UFC gives me what I deserve and I face the winner of this fight.”
According to Muhammad, he is even ready to go to London as a substitute participant in the championship fight.
“Yes, I hope they call me because you never know what might happen. Guys get hurt every day. I see that they had spare fighters for every title fight, so why don’t they put me on that card? But if they arrange a fight with Colby, I will accept it. If not, I’m ready to be a substitute.”
