Top Rank president Todd Duboeuf says they are just as eager as the average boxing fan to hear from WBC champion Tyson Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs), who previously set a September 1 deadline for his proposed fight announcement against Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs).
“I’m always ready for him to show up again on social networks and surprise everyone with another crazy statement,” Duboeuf says. “Sometimes we see messages on social media or videos that are so contrary to what we thought we would hear from him. You never know what will happen. We are in the same position as most of you in the media and fans.”
Unclear, notes
Sky Sportswhether Fury’s alleged “deadline” made any sense, or was it just another buffoonery from the Brit. Todd is also unclear.
“This is the Tyson show. I think he’s technically “on hiatus” now, put his career on hold and we respect that, we’re constantly in talks with Warren,” said Bob Arum’s stepson from his second marriage to the head of Top Rank.
Fury remembered the “sucker” Mustache
“I think that if the fight with Usyk takes place, then it will probably happen somewhere in the first half of 2023,” he said and hinted that it could not only be Saudi Arabia, but also Wembley Stadium in London .
And here’s how competitor-promoter Hearn says about the future fight for the absolute: “Two geniuses in one ring.” The day before, he had ridiculed Fury’s blathering and his exorbitant financial demands.
