Arman Tsarukyan believes he beat Matuesz Gamrot at UFC Vegas 57: ‘I didn’t lose this fight’

Arman Tsarukyan is convinced he should have left UFC Vegas 57 with a win on his record after a five-round battle against Mateusz Gamrot in the main event.

The 25-year-old lightweight prospect ultimately dropped a unanimous decision with all three judges giving him the first two rounds before scoring the last three for Gamrot. Although it was a close matchup, Tsarukyan believed he had done enough to win.

“I didn’t lose this fight,” Tsarukyan wrote on Instagram following UFC Vegas 57. Only upwards from there

In the moments following the decision loss Tsarukyan still had confusion about scoring. He felt that enough damage had been done in order to win at least three of five rounds.

The difference was Gamrot’s grappling. He started landing takedowns in the third round, and continued this strategy up until the last horn. Tsarukyan was extremely effective in his kick game and he beat Gamrot with several sharp shouts during the fight.

“I don’t know but I thought I won this fight,” Tsarukyan said in the octagon afterwards. “I believed I had won the first three rounds. I don’t know what happened with the judges.

” I’m going back to my fight so that I understand it better. That’s okay, it’s okay. Because I am young, I will come back. I can’t lose because I know I am better.”

Prior this setback Tsarukyan had won five straight victories, including back-toback wins over Joel Alvarez and Christos Giagos, earning him his first UFC main-event win.

Unfortunately Tsarukyan suffered a defeat on his resume. This is his second loss in the UFC, after dropping his promo debut decision to Islam Makhachev.

As disappointing as the outcome was on Saturday, Tsarukyan sounds determined to come back better after learning from the experience with Gamrot.

” I don’t know why,” Tsarukyan stated. “This camp was very good. It’s hard to know. I had to show a better fight than this one because I know me. I don’t know what happened but it’s probably it’s my first time for five rounds. That’s why it was difficult. I’m going to improve my mistakes and I’ll come back better.”
