For the fourth time, the rematch for the WBC world title in the flyweight (up to 50.8 kg) between the Mexican belt holder Julio Cesar Martinez (18-1, 14 KOs) and the interim champion Puerto Rican Macullams Arroyo (21-4, 16 KOs).
The first fight between them took place in 2021, but the winner could not be determined due to the cut of the applicant.
Previously, the fight broke down three times due to the fault of the champion (he was sick twice, was injured once). This time, the applicant was already injured shortly before the event – they had to fight on December 3 in Glendale (USA) as a warm-up for the legends of the second flyweight (up to 52.2 kg) Mexican Juan Francisco Estrada and Nicaraguan Roman Gonzalez.
The champion team is urgently looking for a replacement. It is possible that they will opt for the Mexican prospect Angel Ayala (15-0, 7 KOs), who previously won the WBC eliminator. The Mexican team has already turned to the organization with a request to immediately sanction this fight.
Interestingly, Arroyo recently announced his decision to end his career through social networks. Apparently, he was terribly disappointed that the rematch with Martinez still could not be organized, and for some reason the WBC did not deprive the champion of the belt.
Interestingly, in the main event, Gonzalez and Estrada will fight for the vacant WBC belt (vacated after Jesse Rodriguez decided to change divisions), and the winner will be required to make an immediate mandatory defense.
It is possible that the former WBC super middleweight champion (up to 76.2 kg) American will never enter the ring again. Anthony Dirrell (34-3-2, 25 KOs), who brutally lost to compatriot Caleb Plant (22-1, 13 KOs) in October.
Dirrell is still considering a final decision.
And here is another recently defeated ex-world champion – Dominican middleweight fighter (up to 72.6 kg) Jason Rosario (23-4-1, 17 KOs) – officially hung up his gloves on a nail.
Over the weekend, he was caught by an underdog uppercut – check out the knockout, he’s really chic.
