UFC 259 co-main event
The upcoming UFC 259 tournament promises to be a grand event, as three title fights will take place on the night of Saturday to Sunday, March 7, in Las Vegas (USA).
The UFC 259 main event, which sees light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz take on middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, is getting the majority of the fan’s attention. But besides this, the card has a whole bunch of interesting fights.
Megan Anderson will compete for one of Amanda Nunes’ titles in the co-main event of the show, namely the featherweight title.
Nunes, who also holds the UFC bantamweight belt, won the 145-pound title more than two years ago, but it was only in her last fight that she defended it for the first time. In June at UFC 250, she defeated Felicia Spencer by unanimous decision.
Anderson, after losing to the aforementioned Spencer in 2019, won both of her fights, finishing in the first round of Zara Farn dos Santos by choke and Norma Dumont by knockout a year ago.
Prediction for the fight
The champion has excellent boxing and firepower, while she is comfortable on the ground with her BJJ black belt.
Anderson is also a versatile fighter, she has good Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu skills, with the only caveat that the Australian is still more of a striker than a grappler.
But the overall level of the contender cannot be compared with Nunes. Amanda is better than her rival in any of the components. She has won the last two fights on points, which many attribute to the loss of Nunes’ motivation, and if the Brazilian is focused this weekend, then Anderson will most likely finish. Nunes can end the fight both in the standing position, scoring the opponent with a hail of blows, and in the stalls with a choke hold.
