The Women’s Championship bout was officially announced by UFC President Dana White.
In December 2021, Julianna Peña made one of the biggest upsets in the history of mixed martial arts, finishing Amanda Nunes by rear naked choke in the second round, but in July last year, the Brazilian regained her bantamweight championship belt, defeating the American in five rounds by unanimous decision.
It was assumed that the completion of the fundamental trilogy will take place on March 4 at UFC 285 in Las Vegas, however, the league failed to agree with Nunes, who demanded to organize a candidate fight between Irene Aldana and Peña. At the same time, Juliana Peña flatly refused to fight unless a championship belt was at stake.
As a result, the UFC managed to negotiate with Amanda Nunes, as a result of which the numbered Canadian event received its main event.
