All about a potential Haney-Davis fight. A weighted comment from a legend

In the coolest division of boxing – in lightweight – the absolute world champion appeared: the American Devin Haney (29-0, 15 KOs) took away the WBA Super, IBF and WBO belts from the Australian George Kambosos Jr. (20-1, 10 KOs) at the beginning of the month ).

The division also has the WBA World belt holder American Gervonta Davis (27-0, 25 KOs). But the legendary Antonio Tarver does not believe that in the near future we will see a face-to-face fight between the two American champions: “It’s too early for this fight. You yourself know this. This is a potentially superfight between two of the best fighters in the division. Haney has a job. He now has all the belts and needs to protect them. And in this weight there are other tough fighters – the same Teofimo Lopez and Vasily Lomachenko. And Davis isn’t going anywhere.”

“Who would I pick as my favourite? Haney, after all, he is the absolute, – Tarver argues. “But there is another side of the coin. In this division, the leader does not stay long. Loma lost first, then Teofimo, and then Kambosos. So it’s interesting to see if Devin can defend his status. The carnage for the title of the absolute in this weight is like a game of
musical chairs“.

Tarver is pleased that a new generation of tough boxers has grown up in boxing. He is especially amused by the fact that “young black boxers rule. Check out the wave. We have Gervont, we have Haney, we have Shakur Stevenson. By the way, he, too, can soon rise to light weight. I do not hide the fact that this situation makes me very happy.”

Haney is in solidarity with Tarver, says: “I hope to fight Lomachenko instead of a rematch with Kambosos.” And expert Timothy Bradley is not sure about this option, because “Lomachenko saw dead bodies.”
