Aljamain Sterling will face welterweight Nathaniel Wood

Former UFC lightweight champion Aljamain Sterling will try his hand at facing featherweight Nathaniel Wood, but he will do so not in the octagon, but at the Polaris 25 grappling tournament on September 30 in Wales.

Informed sources close to the situation have told informed sources about the organization of the match.

Aljamain Sterling, 34, won the UFC flyweight championship belt in 2021 with a disqualification win over Peter Yan, then made three successful defenses before losing by second-round technical knockout to Sean O’Malley three weeks ago at UFC 292 in Boston and losing the title.

After losing a unanimous decision to Casey Kenny at 2020, 30-year-old Nathaniel Wood moved from the lightweight division to the featherweight division, where he has won three straight, winning decisions over Charles Rosa, Charles Jourdain and Andre Fili.
