Aljamain Sterling: Sean O’Malley didn’t deserve a title shot

Reigning UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling, who is less than two months away from defending his belt against Sean O’Malley, doesn’t think his compatriot deserves a title shot.

“He competes in the Dana White’s Contender Series qualifier, wins with a spectacular knockout, creates hype around himself, then has some good fights, knocking out guys who are no longer in the UFC,” MMANews quotes the American. “We see a guy who was specially matched to make him look like a superstar, but that’s not even what makes me angry”

“What annoys me the most is that he had a chance to make a name for himself in the division, but he goes into a fight with Chito, gets hit once in the leg, falls, after which the lights are turned off for him. He gets knocked out, but somehow miraculously moves up and out to fight Pedro, who almost rips out his eyeball. In the end, everything ends with a duel with Peter Yan. Dude, you had a fight with Petr Yan, like me, but it’s not the same thing. I’ve been losing teeth in this sport and division and I have a resume. So I’m convinced Sean didn’t deserve a title shot.”

Recall that the bantamweight title fight between Aljamain Sterling and Sean O’Malley will be the main event of the UFC 292 tournament, which will be held August 19 in Boston.
