Alexander Volkov breaks down the Pavlovic vs Aspinall fight

UFC heavyweight division number six Alexander Volkov shared his opinion on the upcoming title fight, in which his compatriot Sergey Pavlovic and Briton Tom Aspinall will play for the interim UFC heavyweight championship belt.

“A lot will depend on what kind of shape Aspinall will approach the fight in,” the Russian said in an interview with the “Match TV”. “Sergey has been preparing to be a reserve in the title fight, keeping himself in shape to perform on November 11, so overall his conditioning should be good”

“Sergey has the advantage in power overall and punching power. I see a lot of people are already predicting him to win this fight and he usually does as he always does, I wish him that, but Aspinall needs to be taken more seriously, picked apart and studied. Aspinall is faster, he can be more versatile. He’s more technical, he’s a thinker, some of his fights in the UFC have gone past the first round.”

“Sergey needs to keep the power and style he had in his previous fights. Pressing, pressure, lack of space for the opponent to move. All this must be realized, because Aspinall will try to avoid this development of events through deceptions, leg kicks, and will also attack. If Pavlovic is able to press in his style, I think he will have a very good chance to win”

“Sergey has a good trait – he knows how to competently take the initiative in the beginning and keep his opponent within striking distance. If he maintains that sense of initiative with Aspinall, then Aspinall won’t get away for long. He’s going to have to scramble and make some contact. And how that ends, I don’t know. But just running away won’t work. Aspinall can basically do a good job at number two, but aggressively, doing damage with jabs, kicks, scaring passes. It’s unlikely that any round will be boring.”

As a reminder, the heavyweight title fight will be the second main event of UFC 295, which takes place on November 11 at Madison Square Garden Arena in New York City.
