“I’m happy with my performance,” the Mexican said at the post-event press conference. “By my count, I won 3-2 by rounds – I got the second, fourth and fifth rounds behind me – but I’m not a judge.”
“When I took her back in the fifth round, I started having flashbacks, but she was very competitive. She did her job perfectly and it was hard to repeat what I did in the first fight.”
“I knew she would be stronger than last time and I was expecting a war. The plan was still the same – to finish the fight early, and although I didn’t succeed, I showed my strength. Every fight I show my evolution and I’m happy with everything I did in this fight”
According to Grasso, she is ready to complete the trilogy with Shevchenko if the organization demands it.
“It’s an interesting question. I don’t like to slow down the division as we have a lot of girls waiting for their opportunity, but it’s up to the UFC. If they want to complete the trilogy, let’s do it! If not, I’ll give the next girl a chance. I know what it’s like to fight all the time, waiting for your chance, and I wouldn’t want to slow down the division. But it’s going to be whatever the UFC decides.”
The women’s flyweight title fight headlining the Las Vegas event went the full distance and ended in a split decision draw with scores of 48-47, 47-48 and 47-47. That said, the fate of the fight was essentially decided by referee Mike Bell, who gave Grasso the last round by a score of 10-8 for a final score of 47-47.
