Alex Volkanovski reacted to the likely return of Zabit Magomedsharipov

The current UFC featherweight champion and the organization’s best fighter, regardless of weight category, Alexander Volkanovski, commented on the recent statement by Zabit Magomedsharipov, who hinted that he could resume his professional career.

“Looking forward to when this happens,” – quotes the Australian MMA News. “The thing is, I need big fights and I feel like this is going to be a big fight. There was a lot of hype around Zabit and I think he will be back.”

“He was one fight away from a title fight so I was upset when I found out he was leaving. It looks like he wants to come back, but after what I do on February 12, he might change his mind and resign again, so we’ll see how it goes.”

31-year-old Zabit Magomedsharipov last entered the octagon in November 2019, when he won Calvin Kattar by unanimous decision at the UFC in Moscow, but the Russian officially notified the organization of his retirement only in June of this year.

34-year-old Alexander Volkanovski is currently preparing for a confrontation with Islam Makhachev, from whom he will try to take away the lightweight title on February 12 at UFC 284 in Perth.
