Alex Volkanovski believes in a trilogy with Islam Makhachev

The reigning UFC featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski, has no doubts that he will be able to defeat Yair Rodriguez in a unification fight, after which he plans to challenge Islam Makhachev again, from whom he could not take away the UFC lightweight title in February.

“I challenged him, climbed up, wanted to prove myself in Australia, where I hadn’t fought for a very long time, showed a great fight, but everything ended the way it ended,” the Australian said in the next episode of the IMPAULSIVE podcast. “I was sure that I would get my moment of glory, but it was just taken away from me, and I was damn disappointed with it”

“We will still have a rematch, and maybe even better, because now we have history. Of course, it sucks that I was deprived of the victory, but this will make my victory in the rematch even more significant, and then we will have an even bigger fight and end the story with a grand finale.

Recall that the duel between Alexander Volkanovski and Yair Rodriguez on July 8 will head the UFC 290 tournament in Las Vegas, and Islam Makhachev, who defeated the Australian by unanimous decision in the previous match, will hold his next fight on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi.
