Alex Pereira has officially announced the transition to light heavyweight

After suffering a crushing defeat in an immediate rematch with Israel Adesanya, former UFC middleweight champion Alex Pereira will continue his professional career in the light heavyweight division.

The 35-year-old Brazilian announced this to his fans in a video posted on his YouTube channel.

“I promised you big news and today I want to announce that my next fight will be at light heavyweight,” Pereira said. “Yes, you heard right – I will fight in the light heavyweight category. I think I’ve done my job at middleweight and feel good enough to move up to the light heavyweight division. I said before that as soon as I feel that the time has come, I will go up, and I think it’s time to do it. I can’t tell you my next opponent yet, but I will keep you up to date with all the news.”

Former Glory champion in two weight divisions, Alex Pereira, went from debutant to champion of the world’s strongest league in one year, finishing Israel Adesanyu at UFC 281 in New York with a fifth-round technical knockout, however, over the weekend, the Nigerian regained the title, knocking out the Brazilian at UFC 287 in Miami.
