After testing positive for meldonium, UFC flyweight Carlos Mota was suspended by the Nevada Commission After failing a drug screening, Carlos Mota (

UFC) has been temporarily suspended from the Nevada Athletic Commission. This was in response to his October octagon debut.

The suspension was originally issued by the Commission on December 15. It was then extended to Tuesday in pending a full hearing of disciplinary proceedings or an adjudication agreement. These will be announced at a later meeting.

According to Nevada deputy attorney general Joel Bekker, Mota tested positive for meldonium, which is a substance banned at all times for athletes both in and out of competition.

Meldonium was first listed on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s banned substances list . It is now a part of hormone and metabolic modulators.

Mota ultimately lost his debut by unanimous decision to Cody Durden at UFC Vegas 63. The results of the bout will stay the same regardless of the suspension.

Mota won the fight against Durden after only four days notice, when his opponent Kleydson Rodrigues had to withdraw.

Prior to joining the UFC roster, Mota served as the LFA flyweight champion where he had won two fights in a row. Overall, Mota now holds an 8-2 record in his career.
