The new champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC) in the bantamweight (up to 53.5 kg) will be determined in a duel between the former title holder, 40-year-old Filipino Nonito Donaire (42-7, 28 KOs) and the repeated challenger from Australia Jason Moloney (25-2 , 19 KOs).
It is worth noting that the corresponding decision was made back in November at the annual Congress of the organization. However, only after the current champion Naoya Inoue officially resigned due to the transition to the next category, the fight between Donaire and Moloney was given a move.

Donaire held the WBC title in 2021-22. and lost it in a rematch with Inoue last June, being knocked out in the 2nd round. Nonito was also the world champion in the flyweight, second flyweight, second bantamweight and featherweight.
Moloney has previously challenged the prestigious bantamweight title twice before, but failed both times, losing to Emmanuel Rodriguez in 2018 and to Inoue in 2020.
