The rematch of two absolute world champions – Irish Kathy Taylor (22-0, 6 KOs) from lightweight and Puerto Rican Amanda Serrano (44-2-1, 30 KOs) from the featherweight category – will be held on May 20 in Dublin (Ireland).
This was officially announced by British promoter Eddie Hearn immediately after the end of the boxing evening in New York, in the main event of which Serrano won the “absolute” by defeating Erica Cruz.
Recall that the first fight between Taylor and Serrano was held at the end of April 2022 in New York. Then Katy’s absolute lightweight championship was at stake, the fight ended with her close victory on points by a split decision of the judges, and the event itself was recognized by many profile resources as the loudest and most successful in the world of boxing in 2022.
Since then, Taylor has made one successful defense, outboxing Karen Carbajal in October. Serrano boxed twice and in addition to Cruz defeated Sarah Mahfoud in September 2022.
“My whole team was rooting for Serrano today because we want this fight, undisputed champion against undisputed champion,” Taylor said. “Our last fight was epic and I think the second one will be exactly the same.”
“You know, Kathy is a real champion,” Serrano said. “Last time she visited me in New York and we both made our dreams come true by fighting each other. Now she deserves a fight in Ireland. And it will be even bigger and better (than the first one).”
