UFC President Dana White shared his thoughts on the triumphant return of Jon Jones, who, resuming his career after a three-year hiatus, dealt with Cyril Gan in two minutes to win the vacant UFC heavyweight championship belt.
“No one else can deny that he is not only the best light heavyweight, but also the best heavyweight in history,” the head of the organization said at a press conference after the UFC 285 tournament. “In an interview before the fight, he said that he would do it with ease, and I thought it was pretty self-confident of him, but in the end the guy looked just fucking incredible. ”
“You know that I am one of those people who believes in the disastrous consequences of long downtime, that a fighter can rust, but today we did not see this rust. He did everything as if it did not cost him the slightest effort and was the easiest task in his life. John is an absolute wonder of nature and the best fighter of all time.”
White also answered the question of whether he fears that because of the resounding success, Jones could lose his head and get into trouble again, ruining his heavyweight career.
“There is no doubt that Jon Jones is special. He’s the greatest fighter of all time, he’s undefeated because he’s never lost in the UFC, he’s fought all the best, but doing business with him is like doing business with an artist – I think that’s the best way to explain it. I don’t know what will happen to him next – I’m just glad that we got to see what we saw today.”
The UFC president has confirmed that former division champion Stipe Miocic will be Jon Jones’ next opponent.
“I don’t know when, but he will definitely fight Stipe. I know John wants to fight Stipe, he’s interested in this fight and I’m sure we’re going to see a phenomenal fight.”
White is convinced that Jon Jones’ dominant victory over Cyril Gan leaves no doubt that the strongest heavyweight on the planet is still in the world’s strongest league and has not left it with the departure of Francis Ngannou.
“If Cyril Gan hadn’t made a stupid mistake, didn’t try to do a submission on the leg, he would have won against Francis Ngannou, so the fights Jones-Gan and Ngannou-Gan cannot even be compared closely. I don’t know about you guys, but I still can’t believe what I saw – how easy, fast and simple it looked. It’s just a brain explosion, so I don’t see any point in comparing him with other heavyweights. ”
