The ex-absolute lightweight champion Australian George Kambosos Jr. (20-2, 10 KOs) failed to back up a sensational victory over American Teofimo Lopez – last year he lost twice in a row to Devin Haney from the USA.
The ex-champion refused the WBC eliminator with the conqueror of two divisions American Shakur Stevenson and made it clear that he needed to recharge his batteries first.
It became known that the Australian will return to the ring in May or June. The fight will be with the ex-owner of the (minor) IBO champion title Briton Maxi Hughes (26-5-2, 5 KOs).

No Smoke BoxingHughes has already signed a contract for the fight. He is on a trip to Australia. It is expected that the fight with Kambosos will be a qualifying match according to one of the leading boxing organizations (presumably the WBC or IBF).
But here, most likely, a lot will depend on the outcome of the fight between Haney and Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko. After all, if the American wins, the belts will soon become vacant – Devin will continue his career in the division above (but this is not certain).
British promoter Eddie Hearn (Matchroom Boxing) will not take part in the organization of the Kambosos vs Hughes event, so the live broadcast of the event will not take place on
streaming DAZN.
It is interesting that we were not mistaken in the forecast when we talked about Kambosos after Haney: all the most likely opponents. The Australian believes that he remains the top fighter in the division: “Haney is the best, and I’m number two.” Yesterday he named the favorite of the fight Garcia – Davis.
