Jake Paul is still processing the first loss of his boxing career after dropping a split decision to Tommy Fury.
The social influencer turned boxer didn’t get dominated by any stretch of the imagination but he still dealt with some difficulties in the fight, particularly with Fury’s jab and overall output with nearly double the punches landed over eight rounds.
Looking back on the fight, Paul said Fury did not do anything to catch him off-guard but that he couldn’t get enough done.
“He wasn’t that great, at all,” Paul said on his podcast. “I think Anderson [Silva] was tougher than him. That puzzle was solved by me. That was his greatest thing .”
. He did a lot of throwing punches.
Paul did manage a late knockdown on Fury in the final round but it still wasn’t enough to help him secure the victory as his record drops to 6-1 overall. Meanwhile, Fury moved to 9-0 and even though the outcome wasn’t what he wanted, Paul admits he was actually happy for his opponent afterwards.
” I have respect for the child,” Paul stated. Paul said, “I believe that’s what is the best thing about this sport. It’s possible to be arch enemies, then come back together after defeating each other in war. This is definitely cool.
” I’m so happy for him. Just seeing him cry because I’ve been there, going through all the adversity and then the win meaning everything. Definitely happy for him.”
Mutual respect aside, Paul is already working towards a rematch with Fury stating he’s definitely interested in running it back as well.
According to Paul, the rematch also makes the most sense financially for both fighters after he touted potentially huge returns on pay-per-view sales for the event.
Despite the fact that the fight was in Saudi Arabia and it was broadcast on ESPN+, Paul still believes that the Final Tally will be the most popular card of the year.
” I guess that the pay per view is off the charts, but Paul stated. “Probably going to be the biggest fight of the year. This fight is going to be tough to overcome. Perhaps [Ryan] Garcia or [Gervonta] Davis.
“It will probably cost more than half a billion dollars. It still totals everything. So the business is great.”
Garcia, Davis will meet in April. This could prove to be a highly profitable pay-per view for boxing. However, Conor McGregor’s return in the UFC may outweigh that fight and Paul Vs. Fury, when his bout against Michael Chandler takes place.
If ESPN+ does not report the total subscribers, it will prove difficult to determine the sales figures for the pay-per view service. However, Paul seems content with the information he has been given.
If the sums are higher or equal to what Paul anticipates, it makes Fury’s rematch even more exciting.
While other matchups could be available to him — including a potential showdown with ex-UFC fighter Nate Diaz or fellow social influencer KSI — Paul seems intent on the rematch with Fury later this year.
” Paul stated that there are still many people out there who I could fight. “I would love to rematch Tommy, but all those fights remain huge and important.
“I think the rematch [is next]. I’ve got to go get that back. It’s .”
