Popular American super lightweight Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) refused to hold an interim fight ahead of the long-awaited fight scheduled for April with compatriot Gervonta Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) of the WBA World lower division.
Previously, it was assumed that both would first hold one intermediate battle. Davis on January 7 in Washington (USA) will have a difficult fight with the WBA super featherweight champion Dominican Hector Luis Garcia. And Ryan was supposed to box a little later with the Filipino gatekeeper Mercito Gesta.

wrote on social media: “Get ‘Tank’ Davis here. I’ll knock him out in the 2nd round!”
Later, he decided to explain himself: “Dudes, I’ve been thinking about all this a lot. And I decided that the fans had already eaten all these intermediate fights. It’s time to give the fans what they want! And note that it was Davis who asked for the interim fight, not me. So let him do his own thing for now.”
Interestingly, Garcia not only gave the go-ahead for the fight with Gesta, but even signed a contract. Therefore, it is possible that the fighter is not saying something. In 2021, he disrupted two fights in a row – first he referred to mental problems, then underwent surgery.
