11 June on Honda Center in Anaheim (California, USA) ex-world champion Mexican middleweight Jaime Munguia (39-0, 31 KOs) will fight with Briton Jimmy Kelly (26-2, 10 KOs), reports
ESPN Mexico
.

Mungia was proposed as an opponent to the WBC champion American Jermall Charlo – they did not agree on money. For the same reason, negotiations with the American Daniel Jacobs were unsuccessful. Even earlier, Jaime was offered a fight for the vacant WBO interim champion belt with Kazakh prospect Zhanibek Alimkhanuly – he refused.

However, the Mexican could use the right of a mandatory challenger and go directly to the owner of a full-fledged WBO belt, American Demetrius Andred – he decided that he had not yet fully mastered the division and refused. Until 2019, he was the champion of the organization in the division below.

Kelly in 2015 claimed the WBO junior middleweight belt, but lost by knockout to compatriot Liam Smith. Since then, he has been training the Jornimen, but he did not pull the next increase in the level of opposition – in 2018 he lost to the Australian Dennis Hogan. He closed the defeat with two victories in a row over the journeymen, and then sensationally upset Olympic medalist from China / Kazakhstan Kanat Islam (28-1, 22 KOs).

According to the source, Shane Mosley Jr. from the United States and Michael Zerafa from Australia were also named among Munguia’s possible opponents. Both, like Kelly, were noted in previous fights: the winner in the nomination “knockout of the year” was declassed by the son of a legend, and Tim Tszyu’s failed rival quickly upset the prospect.
