Zhailton Almeida plans to fight for the UFC title next year

With his fifth stoppage victory under the UFC banner, Brazilian heavyweight Zhailton Almeida plans to challenge the reigning UFC champion next year.

“I want to fight Tai Tuivasa in Abu Dhabi or Brazil,” the Brazilian said at a press conference after the UFC on ABC 4 tournament, in the main event of which he finished in the first round with a rear naked choke from Surinamese puncher Jairzinho Rozenstruik. “I am very glad that now I will be in the top ten, and by the end of the year I plan to be in sixth or seventh place in the ranking. Then next year, maybe I can fight for the championship belt that we all dream of.”

Earlier, Almeida’s performance was praised by UFC President Dana White, who said that he sees the Brazilian as a rising star in the heavyweight division.

Recall that the UFC heavyweight title is held by Jon Jones, who will defend the championship belt against Stipe Miocic in November, and Russian heavyweight Sergey Pavlovich is the main candidate to fight the winner of this confrontation.
