On the occasion of the past Independence Day, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky awarded a number of citizens of the country fighting for its existence “for significant merits in strengthening Ukrainian statehood, courage and dedication shown in protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, a significant personal contribution to the development of various spheres of public life, upholding national interests of our state, conscientious performance of professional duty.

Among those noted in
Decree No.593/2022 the award is also the WBO, IBF, WBA world heavyweight champion (over 90.7 kg) Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs).

“Award Usyk Alexander Alexandrovich with the Order of Merit, 1st Class,” the text of the decree says.
