UFC Fight Night 188 Main Event
The fight will take place on the night of Saturday to Sunday, May 23, in Las Vegas. The fight will be broadcast live on Setanta Sports. Estimated start of the battle – 05:00 Kyiv time.
In the co-main bout of #3 UFC strawweight Yan Xiaonan will face #4 Carla Esparza.
Xiaonan (13-1) in the UFC won all six fights and all six by unanimous decision. For her, this will be the first performance this year, in 2020 she passed the strong Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Claudia Gadel.
The first ever UFC strawweight champion, Esparza (17-6), is on a four-fight streak, all on the scorecards. It will also be her first fight in 2021, last year the Cookie Monster won a split decision over Michelle Waterson and Marina Rodriguez.
Prediction for the fight
Xiaonan’s basic martial art is Wushu Sanda, so it’s no surprise that she tries to fight in a standing position. Before joining the UFC, she won 5 out of 7 victories by knockout.
Esparza, on the other hand, is a basic wrestler with a brown belt in BJJ. The UFC is trying to bet on grappling.
In this confrontation of styles, the Chinese woman has a good chance of winning on points due to her striking abilities. She has good defense against takedowns, however, Esparza is very experienced and it is not known how Xiaonan will be able to cope with her passes to the legs. We are expecting a competitive three-round fight with a slight advantage of Esparza.
